Live stream viewers can now send chat messages, plus additional host controls

What’s changing

We’re introducing updates for the in-meeting chat experience for Google Meet live streams. Specifically, we’re adding the ability for viewers to send in-meeting chat messages, together with a host control for this functionality. The host management setting will be set to ALLOW viewers to send messages by default.

The ability to read in-meeting chat messages will now be controlled with a new host management control. This setting will be configured as ALLOW viewers to read messages by default as well.

Note that in order to allow viewers to send messages, reading messages must also be turned on.

These updates give meeting hosts more options to control over when and how live stream viewers can interact with in-meet chat messages.

Host controls > Host Management > “Let live stream viewers…”

Getting started

Admins: Visit the Help Center to learn more about turning live streaming on or off for your organization. Note that in-call chat messaging for live streams requires chat to be turned on for Meet calls in general – visit the Help Center for more information.
End users:

Meeting hosts:

Note: The host control for sending chat messages is already rolled out. Hosts that wish to adjust settings for upcoming meetings in advance can do so already.
These settings are configured per meeting or per meeting series, with other host management controls. Visit the Help Center to learn more about live streaming for video hosts.

Live stream viewers: Your ability to view and send in-meeting chat messages during a live stream will depend on your meeting host configuration.

What’s changingLast year, we empowered educators and students to easily create and collaborate with video by introducing Google Vids to Education Plus customers. Today, we’re excited to expand Vids to all Google Workspace for Education customers.*
Vids can help deepen learning opportunities, up-level instruction, and inspire the next generation of storytellers in a variety of scenarios, for example:

Educators can support diverse learning styles and help students retain information with instructional videos and deep dives on complex concepts.
Students can work on video projects and review recorded lessons.
Education leaders can easily incorporate video in their school newsletters and create internal training videos for staff. Vids is also integrated with Google Workspace for Education tools like Google Classroom, empowering educators to easily assign video projects or post video explainers right to their students.

*Google Workspace for Education customers will receive access to GoogleVids, without AI features.

Why you’d use it Similar to other productivity tools like Docs, Sheets, and Slides, Vids includes an easy-to-use interface and the ability to collaborate in real-time and share videos securely from your browser. You can easily get started with a variety of templates organized by use cases to create a new video. From there, you can add motion with animations, transitions, and photo effects, and customize your video using the Vids royalty free education-friendly stock content library or your own media directly from Google Drive or Google Photos.

Over the years, we’ve implemented updates to help you find exactly what you’re looking for with less effort when searching in Gmail. In March, we announced a smarter search feature powered by AI to quickly show users the most relevant results, and today we’re excited to extend this to businesses. Now, instead of just showing emails in chronological order based on keywords, Gmail search results will factor in elements like recency, most-clicked emails and frequent contacts. With this update, the emails you’re looking for are far more likely to be at the top of your search results — saving you valuable time and helping you find important information more easily. Currently, when an Admin pre-configures meeting recordings, meeting transcripts, or “Take notes for me” in Meet as ON by default for newly created meetings, the artifacts are generated in English. Today, we’re expanding the language availability to include:

Video file uploads are now available to Google Workspace users in the Gemini mobile app

You can now upload videos stored on your mobile device to provide more context to your prompts in the Gemini mobile app. You can ask Gemini to summarize the video, ask Gemini specific questions about the video and more. | Rollout to Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains is complete. | Available to all Google Workspace users with access to the Gemini app. | Visit the Help Center to learn more about how to upload and analyze files in the Gemini Apps.

Boost productivity with scheduled actions in Gemini

You can now use scheduled actions in Gemini to create personalized updates, set reminders, or complete routine tasks in a chat or based on existing prompts. You can set these actions to your preferred frequency, be it a single reminder, or daily or weekly updates. Some ways you can use scheduled actions are:

Daily summaries of your calendar, to-do list, and unread emails for the day ahead.
Daily news briefings: deliver a concise, easy-to-digest summary of the day’s top news stories or a specific topic.
Competitive landscape monitoring: Monitor online news, press releases, social media content, and more based on a specific industry.
Weekly vocabulary builders: Receive a curated list of new vocabulary words, complete with definitions and example sentences, tailored to your learning level.

Rollout to Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains is complete. | Available with a qualifying edition of Google Workspace for Gemini on the web and mobile and in all supported languages. Google Drive log events now include search related information

We’re expanding Drive log events in the security investigation tool to include search events. This includes information on resources returned from a search, the query the user entered, and more. Admins can use this information to help assess whether there is normal search behavior or whether the behavior was anomalous and indicating potential data exfiltration. Introducing Google AI Ultra for Business: Providing Access to Advanced AI Features and Next-Gen tools

What’s changingWe’re pleased to introduce Google AI Ultra for Business, a new Workspace add-on that provides the highest access to AI features and models and access to next-generation AI tools, including:

The Gemini app with our most capable AI models, including higher usage limits to Gemini 2.5 Pro, Veo 3 (our latest video generation model), and Deep Research. Subscribers will also soon get access to Deep Think, an enhanced reasoning mode for highly-complex math and coding.
NotebookLM with higher usage limits and best model capabilities (coming later this year), as well as higher limits for Audio Overviews, notebooks, queries, and sources per notebook, along with custom notebook styles and response lengths.
Access to Gemini in Workspace: Users on Business or Enterprise Standard and Plus plans already have access to Gemini in Workspace apps, like Gmail, Docs, Sheets and more. Users on other qualifying Workspace plans can get access to most of these features by adding Google AI Ultra for Business.
Access to Flow, our AI filmmaking tool, built with and for creatives. Create cinematic scenes and stories, with access to Veo 3 and premium features, including the ability to reference images to create multiple clips in a story with consistency.
Access to Whisk, a new AI image and video generation tool that helps creatives quickly explore and visualize new ideas using both text and image prompts. With Whisk Animate you can turn images into 8-second videos using Veo 2.
Access to Project Mariner (currently US only): A research prototype to explore the future of streamlined human-agent interaction using natural language prompts. Assign AI agents to complete time-consuming tasks like research and data entry concurrently, so you can get more done while the agents work in the background.

Workspace users accessing Gemini in Workspace, Gemini app and NotebookLM with a Google AI Ultra for Business license access these services as a core service with enterprise-grade data protections subject to the Google Workspace Terms of Service or your offline Workspace agreement. As a reminder, their content is not human reviewed or used for Generative AI model training outside their domain without permission. Learn more at the Generative AI in Google Workspace Privacy Hub.
Several of these tools, including Whisk, Flow, and Project Mariner are not covered by the Workspace Terms of Service and have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to read these terms for more details.

What’s changingIn January 2025, we announced our plan to bring premium AI features directly to our Business and Enterprise offerings, helping our customers and their users boost productivity, creativity, and innovation, transforming how they work. We also stopped charging for Gemini add-ons that you may have purchased previously for your Business and Enterprise offerings after January 31, 2025.This week, as part of a shift in our offerings, we will begin removing references to the Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Business, AI Meetings & Messages, and AI Security add-ons from the Subscriptions page within the Admin console (Menu > Billing > Subscriptions). This change will apply to customers whose Workspace edition now includes all functionality previously available with these add-ons. For example, if you had a Workspace Business Standard or Enterprise Standard subscription and a Gemini Business add-on, the add-on is no longer needed since the applicable AI features are now included in your Workspace subscription.Important note: There will be no disruptions in service or changes in feature availability with this change. This change will have no effect on your bill.

Getting started

Admins: No action is needed – we will make these updates to the Subscriptions page automatically.
End users: There is no end user impact or action required.

Rollout pace

This update will begin taking effect starting June 25, 2025 and may take several weeks to rollout for affected customers.

Changes to "Who can manage" and "Who can view" members in Google Groups starting September 15, 2025

What's changingThere are upcoming changes to permissions in Google Groups which will be implemented starting September 15, 2025.

Currently, Google Groups has three roles: owner, manager, and member. Associated permissions for these roles, like Who can manage members and Who can view members can be configured in a group's settings. Additional group members can be assigned these permissions using custom roles. For example a group could have “who can manage members” set to “group owners” but then configure a custom role, add members to it, and add the custom role to “who can manage members.”
To reduce complexity and increase consistency across Workspace products, the following will no longer be supported in Groups:

Custom roles for Who can manage members and Who can view members
The ability to allow the Entire organization to manage members

The timeline for this change is as follows:Starting September 15, 2025, users will no longer be able to:

Add new custom roles for Who can manage members and Who can view members
Set Who can manage members to Entire organization

Starting January 5, 2026:

If a group has custom roles configured for Who can manage members and Who can view members, those custom roles will no longer apply
If a group has Who can manage members set to Entire organization, that setting will be updated to all members

Admins or end users can reassign users in custom roles in impacted groups to the default role that best matches their activity within the group. For example, if a group has Who can manage members set to owners and also has a custom role with three members in it, consider these options:

Recommended: Expand the setting for Who can manage members to owners and managers and add those three users as managers
Change the role of those three members to owners
Expand the capability to manage members to all group members

We also recommend setting Who can view members to Entire Organization to make collaboration seamless across Workspace, though if the group requires additional privacy, choose Group members.

Getting started

Admins: Admins of affected customers will receive more information via email, including a list of impacted Groups, to help their users navigate this change. Visit the Help Center for more information on the custom roles changes coming to Groups.

The initial upload screen where you can adjust the file’s name and location.
The progress bar that tells you how many items are uploading and how long it will take.
The Upload Tab where you can see all pending or recently completed uploads.

Mitigating prompt injection attacks with a layered defense strategy

This week, we shared more details on how we protect Gemini and mitigate threats from malicious actors utilizing indirect prompt injection attacks to exfiltrate user data or execute other rogue actions. Google takes a layered security approach, with security measures designed for each stage of the prompt lifecycle. From Gemini 2.5 model hardening, to purpose-built machine learning (ML) models detecting malicious instructions, to system-level safeguards, we are meaningfully elevating the difficulty, expense, and complexity faced by an attacker.

Our model training with adversarial data significantly enhanced our defenses against indirect prompt injection attacks in Gemini 2.5 models. This inherent model resilience is augmented with additional defenses that we built directly into Gemini, including:

Prompt injection content classifiers
Security thought reinforcement
Markdown sanitization and suspicious URL redaction
User confirmation framework
End-user security mitigation notifications

This layered approach to our security strategy strengthens the overall security framework for Gemini – throughout the prompt lifecycle and across diverse attack techniques.

What’s changing Last year, we introduced Comeen for Google Chat, a third-party app that helps users effortlessly manage workplace resources by enabling them to confirm or release meeting rooms and desks via real-time notifications within Google Chat. Today, we’re excited to announce the next evolution of the Comeen app: the Workplace AI Agent. This powerful assistant uses generative AI to help users complete key workplace actions using natural language. From bookings to workplace knowledge, everything happens in seconds through simple prompts. For example, users can:

Book workplace resources (workstations, meeting rooms). By asking the Comeen app to book a space, it will find the most suitable resource based on your building, capacity needs, and preferences. For example, you can type:

“Book a desk for tomorrow”
“Book a desk with a dual screen”
“Book a room at 2pm for 8 people with a Google Meet Hardware”

Answer workplace or building-related questions. When you ask about your workspace or colleagues, you will get contextual answers tailored to your organization’s configuration and your individual context. For example, you can ask:
