    A major change is about to hit LTL shipping. On July 19, the NMFTA is updating the National Motor Freight Classification, affecting 40% of classified commodities.     On July 19, 2025, the U.S. National Motor Freight Traffic Association (#NMFTA) will make a significant change to the National Motor Freight Classification (#NMFC) system, altering roughly 40% of LTL-shipped commodities. While the #NMFC doesn't set LTL shipping rates, it plays a fundamental role in determining LTL pricing. The #NMFTA’s revision of the #NMFC is likely to reset LTL rates for the rest of the year as carrier pricing departments review shipments they handle based on new standards. Shippers in the U.S. need to prepare now to mitigate a direct impact on LTL transportation rates.
